I am so sorry to hear of everyone's frustration in viewing STS-127. I'm 55, and have always wanted to see a launch, since my first grade teacher rolled a black & white TV into our classroom to watch Alan Shephard's Freedom 7 launch. I never thought I'd see it, since flight delays make a trip to a launch very iffy. However, I found myself on a business trip to central Florida on July 15th. My wife called me that morning and said, "The shuttle launch was rescheduled for today, if you want to try and get to the Cape this afternoon." At about 4:30 PM, I checked a map and headed for Titusville. I had no traffic and found a parking spot two blocks from the Indian River at 5:30. I walked to the river bank and stood there in awe as Endeavor lifted off at 6:03 PM. I couldn't have been luckier for my first attempt. I hope you all get the opportunity soon.

I am about ready to have t shirts ordered with numbers for our own count down. How many times do we need to go? This last two times we were standing and waiting with cameras ready. Tried to blow away the clouds but I guess I am not windy enough. I do not know if we will try Wednesday or not. Discovered this blog trying to find out if this was a record. R Arnold. South Florida. One tank of gas for each attempt. Three nights in a motel and lost sleep twice. I don't know. R

My husband and I were there too. And I'm heading down this weekend myself to try and catch it again... Weather isn't looking so hot though.
By the way, there is a NASA update phone number you can call for the latest updates. We used it constantly when we were down there in June to find out what was going on when we couldn't be in front of NASA TV. That number, for future reference, is 321-867-2525.
