This the the Augustine Commission meeting that took place in Cocoa Beach, Florida on July 30th, 2009. This is split in to 13 parts and re-combined as a YouTube playlist. You can jump from section to section using the navigation at the bottom of the video.


Central to the gains in vision presented to the committee in this session was Jeff Greason’s insight that using the ISS as a assembly depot and fuel depot allows a factor of 2 or better efficiency gains in the cost of boosting Lunar and Mars missions to LEO.
This idea is likely to save NASA so much money that they could even consider keeping the ISS going past 2020. Add to that ISS would then have a real and valuable mission – assembly and fueling of interplanetary spacecraft.
This is a real breakthrough. We should all thank this committee for their hard work in assembling this big picture “forest not the trees” look at HSF.
