Shuttles and Hurricanes – 19.08.09

It usually takes a ton of planning and resources to roll the space shuttle out to the launch pad from the Vehicle Assembly Building. Then, once the shuttle makes it to the pad the work continues by adding the payload to the shuttle’s cargo bay.  Finally after weeks of prep time the Shuttle is ready for takeoff!

And then a hurricane strikes the Florida coast.

[..YouTube..] last flights, i’d say they’ll probably roll it back just to make sure. if anything gets damaged now, there’s not an abundance of future flights to move it back to.

No joke! And I just figured the same thing… but as of about 9am EDT we got this from Twitter today:

@NASA: FRR: The FRR voted unanimously to schedule Discovery’s STS-128 launch at 1:36 am EDT on August 25.

I’d say things are looking up! ;)

  3. [..YouTube..] I hope it doesn’t get rolled back and everything goes as planned because I am ready for a night launch

#4 will crap himself in relief when I link him this vid.

I would be interested in the experience of others with this clip. I have fairly poor “broadband” service with Time-Warner (a.k.a “Slime-Porner”) cable and so must usually deselect HD since it is not a viable streaming option for me. This clip did not have a way to dial down definition so it was very stop & go – is this a different content supplier? If so I must vote against it. The only thing that got streamed at full rate was the tampon commercial. One star.

    • We are playing with Blip.tv distribution as it allows us to do some pretty cool things. Some tweaking is going on as we adjust the settings to allow for the widest range of distribution. We normally use YouTube for all of our videos and are still posting there to allow you to grab the videos in that format if you like. Should play a bit nicer with lower bandwidth providers.

Thanks for checking into it Benjamin. Like any junkie I can get cranky when I don’t get my fix ! :)
