The 2009 NGLLC is well underway and we already have a winner for the Level 2 prize, although we’re not quite sure who that will be yet.

In this daily we show the possible winner, Scorpius from Armadillo Aerospace and explain the contest itself.

Got a little choked up seeing that. Watching Armadillo fly never gets old. Congrats, guys! Well done!

    Great daily, B&C!!

You can get a pretty good idea of size by taking a peek at this picture:

Not to sound overly dramatic, but these are the people that are forever changing the world. The funny thing is, hardly anyone knows it!

  4. Rick Boozer says:

    Ben and Carriann,

Its great to see you making available the video of this landmark event. Congratulations, Armadillo!

If I can make another statement that may not be totally unrelated since Armadillo could benefit by supplying a lunar lander, but ULA has recently announced its new alternative architecture for reaching the moon. Only EELVs required! That's right, we don't need no stinkin' HLVs. And they specified it to where other company's EELVs can be used as well, not just ULA's! They say they only specifically mention ULA launchers as an example. Anyone who is interested should check this paper out that will be presented at this week's AIAA convention:

    Amzing.I'll leave it at that

  6. FirstManOnMars says:

That. Is. Incredible. WOW! Man, it was so stable, too. How large is this landing vehicle? I had a hard time judging how large I thought it was. On the landing/launching pads I have to admit, it looks like a toy since there is nothing nearby to compare it with (much like on the Moon). I see some plants there but couldn't tell what sort of plant it was. Any idea of the height of this thing?
