    there is something wrong with this picture unless I heard it wrong. The shuttle data wasn’t being sent back to nasa as some point during this launch, so how are they able to show the launch data?

  2. bootsdog3 says:

    We just got back from Florida. We saw the lift off from across the water in Tittusville. It took off just before daybreak. The sound took a bit to hit us, but when it did it was very deep and booming. Very cool.

  3. drumluvver says:

    sound barrier breaks at 3:41 that is badass

  4. nilbud says:

    @tomanyasses Hey cletus your mother is ready to go again, hop on.

  5. nilbud says:

    @tomanyasses Seven times, ha ha ha you must be using some of your extra fingers counting

  6. tomanyasses says:

    @nilbud how many times was it smart ass,dont know , dumb ass to

  7. mach25man says:

    @dhowser2008 Data during launch is sent via an S-Band antenna which is working perfectly. The shuttles Ku-Band antenna stowed in the midbody and deployed once the bay doors are opened is what malfunctioned. It has several functions on orbit one of them sending back video data which was recorded and other data. Another function is using it as radar to dock with ISS. But again, there are several back up systems that can replace the Ku.

  8. mach25man says:

    @jizzmonger water starting ti flow….

  9. @tomanyasses The shuttle doesn’t go to the moon… I jsut assumed you were talking about going to the space station since that’s all this video is about.

  10. tomanyasses says:

    @trevoroliverharris, ok ,yep i guess we need to make long sentences to make sure were talking about the same thing but my hands and shoulders hurt to much .

  11. pacloro says:

    when would be go to the moon again instead of orbiting around the earth?-_-

  12. bassshred37 says:

    nice that this is in HD

  13. HighSerrias says:

    This cool…. is this the first of many to come? Wow, amazing

  14. UdallIn72 says:

    @alternatereality85

    I’ve always liked the throttle up call.
    And, more recently, the “Go Plus-X, Go Pitch” call.

  15. xiaoyangkao2 says:

    @jizzmonger sound suppression water system activating, the commentator mentions it a few seconds later

  16. jizzmonger says:

    @mach25man

    I am looking for a more specific answer such as the noise is the water pump, the noise is sound the water makes flowing through the pipes…it’s a dual whistle wind-up turbocharger type noise.

  17. mach25man says:

    @jizzmonger Yea, hard to say. The water tank next to the pad drops 300,000 gallons of water thru several different kinds of rain birds and nozzles for suppression. Guess you will have to hook up with a pad water guy…

  18. The cyclical noise prior to the water sound suppression system activation is actually the APU’s on board the orbiter. These supply hydraulic pressure for moving the vehicle’s control surfaces during flight.

  19. mach25man says:

    @MusicalFan1701 The APU’s are started 5 minutes prior to launch…

  20. @tomanyasses

    ur so called moon landing was done in Nevada dessert you dumbfuck! Its fake!

  21. Beautiful video. Brings a tear to my eye. I very much like the vehicle ascent statistics overlay.

  22. Amazing. Simply amazing. I was there that day, I saw it take off from a beach about 1/2 hour away, I will never forget it. It is so unreal to be there. This is what I hope to pursue in my future years(:

  23. say that to Buzz Aldrin, you fuck!

  24. speedy240 says:

    by far the best space launch video i have seen

  25. mtakala82 says:

    The telemetry stuff is not “real” telemetry:
    * The shuttle cannot be at 0G at launch pad, its impossible.
    * The throttle down / up is really stepped process within a second, not like this video shows it to be
    * The 3G count at the end begins a bit later than it says it does in the telemetry screen on this video

  26. @vladimirstanislav . mind your tongue you conspirator bastard

  27. Winemakers91 says:

    Seeing a launch has been a dream of mine since I was 10; the delay from March 18th to April 5th allowed my family and I to be in Orlando at the time of the launch. It also meant people who had viewing tickets were letting them go, and we got 4 tix to view from Kennedy. What an incredible birthday present! A beautiful thing to see, and wonderful to have shared with my family.

  28. God, that shot at 2:57 is incredible.

  29. xiaoyangkao2 says:

    G force meter is incorrect; cannot be 0 before liftoff.

  30. Tiggrbob says:

    I was there for the launch! it was awesome!

  31. i was there to see this launch! it was ridiculously awesome!

  32. DVA4890 says:

    Im glad I was able to go to Titusville to see my first launch. We tried to go to the one before it but it scrubbed 9 minutes out

  33. 350z350zify says:

    @mtakala82 yes it is possible for there to be 0G.

  34. mtakala82 says:

    @jizzmonger the windup is the solid rocket booster’s apu units starting up.

  35. jizzmonger says:

    @mtakala82

    Ah ok. Can you tell me a little more about them? Are they turbines????

  36. gruenloh1234 says:

    what was the flame @ 01:27 ?

  37. Andrea N says:

    yay! now I have HD as well as my own footage from the best trip ever! Thanks SVC!

    I saw this think launch from right in front of the VAB with @Craftlass and we were just blown away…amazing stuff…never…ever..ever…forget it!

  38. u would think that the take off lunch of the shuttle would destory the platform and that the cloud would sweap over the space center

  39. simp230 says:

    @charlieiscool1000 haha, well the platform is made of concreet (no not the whole structure, but where the temprature gets the highest) and that cloud, well first it’s only water so when it spreads out it will seem to disappear and secondly they will olny lanch a shuttle when there isn’t much wind

  40. DVA4890 says:

    I was there over in Titusville great to see a night launch

  41. Traxxasman11 says:

    @DVA4890
    I was in titusville too, on holiday in FL

  42. @alternatereality85 It gives me a sick feeling when I think about the program ending. I grew up during the 80′s and the shuttle lauches were always something to look forward to. I was fortunate to see STS 125 while on vacation in FLA

  43. United Space Alliance has obviously done a great job at keeping the old bird flying. I dont see why we can keep them flying and build new vehicles in the meantime. We need a way to get to space. Its an embarrasment to the history of the space program to have to depend on the Russians to get us to the station. What is wrong with these politicans.

  44. transPlanko says:

    stunning stunning stunning, I will never tire of watching stuff like this, technology like poetry in motion.

  45. rAvensBBr says:

    is the halo around the orbiter’s aft end @ 10:55 the ionosphere flourescing?

  46. thumbs up if u need white external tank at last space shuttle mission!

  47. elfenknight says:

    @gruenloh1234 Ya, um, I agree. What was that?? o.0

  48. I just love rockets! The shuttle is certainly a classic. Pity it is going away soon.

  49. NeilThe83 says:

    Dude at around 7:17 are those white dots stars?

  50. Our family was on spring break in Daytona Beach. This was my highlight to Florida we went on a cruise but nothing was better than seeing my first launch breathe taking. The video just isn’t a good as seeing it live .Wish the program would keep going !!!

  51. @alternatereality85 i know :( i went there to watch this launch. me and my dad were on the causeway. if u havent went to watch a launch yet u need to go before it retires. im never going to forget this. im 16 and i saw this for the first time and i want to do something with space already haha but if they dont extend it im going to be upset.

  52. trile666 says:

    what are you talking about, suttle is going away???? what is going to replace them?

  53. Swoop737 says:

    @alternatereality85

    I agree….we should keep the shuttles flying a while longer.

  54. kelava85 says:

    @NeilThe83 no, dude, its alliens

  55. SpartanW98 says:

    i dont like the girl that comentates these, we need somebody like the guy who narrate the apollo launches. this chick just doesnt make it sound epic at all.

  56. SpartanW98 says:

    who the fuck is that one person that disliked this? must not have been a real human being…

  57. SpartanW98 says:

    @NeilThe83 no, its ice and debris falling off the shuttle.

  58. Cenara says:

    LOVELY, just lovely! <3

  59. popmun says:

    @Cenara Indeed. =P

  60. NeilThe83 says:

    @SpartanW98 Oh… I see… thankx

  61. LSnader11 says:

    I saw it launch! It was really cool.

  62. @alternatereality85: Yeah, I feel the same way.

    I’m going to miss hearing them call out those words. My personal favorites are “Roger, roll Atlantis/Discovery/Endeavor”, “negative return”, “single engine, Zaragoza” and “press to MECO”. What about the rest of you guys here, what are your favorites?

  63. @alternatereality85 Yeah thanks to obama.

  64. 350z350zify says:

    @TachieBillano GO AT THROTLE UP. thats my fav, then roger roll and negative return.

  65. @350z350zify: When the Space Shuttle program ends, I think I’ll miss watching new launches so much I’ll try making my own ring tones and computer SFX with “Atlantis, go at throttle up.” or “Houston, roll program!” “Roger, roll Endeavor!”

  66. randommagnum says:

    You gotta love that announcer lady’s hillbilly drawl.

  67. @TachieBillano I stop holding my breath at MECO so I guess thats my fav. I will miss the roll program but I’m sure the next vehical will have a roll program as well. In fact I think that the saturn and titan had one.

  68. Out of curiosity, why does the shuttle’s altitutude begin to decrease for a few minutes when it reaches c.340,000? Is this due to the fact that its orbit is still unstable at that point? Thanks in advance for any answers.

  69. @deltasevenma7: Me, too! I get nervous everytime they tell the shuttle to throttle up. Can’t breathe until the SRBs are ditched, and can’t relax until MECO.

    (I also wonder what it’s like to be in the shuttle as it does the roll program. A roller coaster comes to mind…)

    To supervidcast and everyone else here: I see something like a wee “plasma” wave in this video at 03:43-03:45. Was that just a wavering camera, or was that superheated gas?

  70. marvincini says:

    i want to feel what the astronauts feel at the time of launch!!

  71. moses1424 says:

    I got to watch this from Daytona. My first and last shuttle launch :(

  72. wasimroohi says:

    this is good i can dan werkstuk maken

  73. LuNaTeCh66 says:

    @randommagnum shes southern.

  74. NSRacerMods says:

    this is 10.000 times better then making a spectacular entry with a loud rally car. put a 2000W sound system in the space shuttle and it will be the most spectacular thing ever!

  75. randommagnum says:

    @LuNaTeCh66 And how!

  76. LuNaTeCh66 says:

    @randommagnum What do you mean? I’m saying shes not a hillbilly shes from the south. Not everyone is a hillbilly from the south. Not only that if she is working at NASA I doubt she is dumb.

  77. LuNaTeCh66 says:

    @randommagnum What do you mean? I’m saying shes not a hillbilly shes from the south.

  78. randommagnum says:

    @LuNaTeCh66 Yeah I know you are saying she’s southern, and I’m saying “and how”, which is an old expression that means “indeed”.

    And who says hillbillies are dumb?

  79. onestars101 says:

    ma si vede una sfera bianca a 8:43 in basso a destra?…..down right
