STS-132 (ISS assembly flight ULF4) is the the last Space Shuttle mission of Atlantis, which docked with the International Space Station on May 16, 2010. It was launched from the Kennedy Space Center on 14 May 2010. The primary payload is the Russian Rassvet Mini-Research Module along with an Integrated Cargo Carrier-Vertical Light Deployable (ICC-VLD). STS-132 is the first US spaceflight since STS-97 to have only veteran astronauts (astronauts that have flown at least one previous mission) on board.

STS-132 is scheduled to be the final flight of Space Shuttle Atlantis provided that the STS-335 Launch On Need rescue mission is not flown.

Below is the 7 hour live event Spacevidcast produced during the launch itself. This is cut in to 1 hour segments to make it a bit easier to jump around. Awesome interviews, community interaction and fun with bandwidth and Skype. Enjoy!

  1. NiteOwl1224 says:

13,000 mph including the speed of Earth’s orbit? or is that on top of orbit? Cool stuff!!!

  2. How many launchs must to perform space shuttle, again?

  3. Alexville says:

    I was there watching :D

  4. tzkelley says:

This is probably a stupid question but why does the shuttle have to perform a roll maneuver at launch? I understand the need to arc upside down during ascent but why isn’t the shuttle positioned that way at launch in the first place? Just seems like a dangerous maneuver to have to do so close to the ground.

  5. joshatkins94 says:

@tzkelley It’s just not the way the pads were originally designed in the 1960s. The shuttle does it to get better communication with the Tracking and Data Relay Satellite, for a higher mass to orbit, and other reasons.

  6. EasyLinux says:

To bad it’s the last Atlantis launch :(

  7. Dragoskunky says:

Did the PAO stutter at around 31 seconds left in countdown?

  8. BasKoene1 says:

It’s so awesome that they always launch them succesfully!

  9. tobitege says:

The ride of your life in HD, awesome!

  10. NIK4EVA says:

@EasyLinux Unless its needed to replace Discovery Shuttle, but it is the last ‘scheduled’.

  11. NIK4EVA says:

@BasKoene1 We lost 2 shuttles. 1 during a launch and the other one while descending.

  12. faridino82 says:

    THIS IS COOOOOL!!!!!!!!!!!!

  13. europana7 says:

my video seems like miles away – actually tat’s cause it is 6 miles away on the Causeway.

  14. xYxlost says:

Space flight is the future, no matter who is in the driver seat.

  15. [...] you watched Spacevidcast’s launch day broadcast almost all of the people that I interviewed are either friends or acquaintances of mine. This makes [...]

  16. th902 says:

    每一回看着太空梭升空都很爽,好像自己也有机会参加。
wacthing the space shuttle launch realy excited, feel like i can join them one day.

  17. lcf34 says:

@th902 you’d better hurry up to book your plane ticket then ;-)

  19. garazy says:

What is the yellow and white stuff coming off the shuttle at around the 9:30 mark?

  20. livinlvis says:

@garazy Those are the maneuvering jets firing to fine tune the trajectory of the orbiter. They use chemical propellants unlike the main engines which use hydrogen and oxygen and the solid boosters which use aluminum propellant in a rubber like mixture that is the consistency of an eraser.

  21. livinlvis says:

@garazy The orbiter also flips over so the astronauts can take pictures of the liquid fuel tank. This is all done with the maneuvering jets.

  22. I was only 8 miles away and had the view of a lifetime, but this clip made it all worth it! FANTASTIC. I hope to make at least one more. Nice work NASA.

  23. 350z350zify says:

@europana7 i thought they film this at the press area?

  24. when they come back aren’t they going like 20,000 mph ?

  25. SpartanW98 says:

@hondarider100r they enter the atmosphere at 17,200mph. they slow down 300mph before the reentry.

  26. HAVZN71 says:

    Hello!
Kár hogy vége ennek a programnak.Sajnos 14 ember nem élhette meg ezt az évfordulót.Méltó befejezés.Emlékezzünk rájuk!Szerintem ők is így gondolnák….Irány a Mars és a Világegyetem!

  27. shi9d1 says:

Launch of ISS-132 is apprecable and incredible, the sum up work of ESA and RUSSIAN hardware with american atlantis, today on(10th) tenth day the mission is on the way in orbit, exchange of 7,000 pounds of reck, Atlantis expected to be back home after (5)days,nice common effort…

  28. Chrisjr2007 says:

and I was there in front of you ;)

  29. blazkowicz1 says:

i want to know what is going to happen in 2020 with the space flight :D

  30. kevlara1ckjw says:

I was there when it launched!!! Atlantis and her crew put on one hell of a good show! Godspeed STS-132! and Thank You!

  31. spacevidcast says:

@blazkowicz1 I think we all do!

  32. spacevidcast says:

@hondarider100r They orbit at around 17,500 mph until they begin deorbit burn. From that moment they begin to slow down. When the wheels touch down the vehicle is going around 220 mph.

  33. kurlis says:

between 2:50 and 2:51 it looks like a wave, is it the sonic boom wave?

  34. how are they going to take supplies to the space station if they r stopping the space shuttle missions?
