LaserMotive is a Seattle-based company developing laser power beaming systems to transmit electricity without wires, for applications where wires are either cost prohibitive or physically impractical. Their first project was to win the NASA-sponsored Power Beaming Challenge, which they did by winning the Level 1 prize of $900,000 in 2009. This is the story of how it all started, and where it’s headed.
