Open Thread: Where we have been, and where we are going

Spacevidcast has reached a milestone. 100 live episodes plus dozens of spacepods and live events. There’s a chatroom available 24/7 for people to come in and discuss the shows, events, and various goings-on in space on a daily basis. Most of the time, there are people in the chatroom to talk with.
But what about the times when there isn’t? What if you have something to say that is too in depth to post in a chatroom?
We at Spacevidcast have developed a solution. Each week there will be an open thread posted just like this one where you can come and talk about space exploration, Spacevidcast, rocket launches, or anything else related to “making space commonplace”. The comments section, with the comment threading, makes it possible to have a discussion without all participants being in the chatroom at the same time.
This is an experiment, so lets start it off right.
Some ground rules
0) This is not a complete listing of all the rules. Additional rules will be enforced as needed.
1) Try to keep the topic vaguely space-related.
2) If there’s a rule about it in the chatroom, there’s a rule about it here. Try to keep the discussion civil.
3) While “what if?” and slightly more fantastic (e.g. Sci-Fi) discussions are acceptable, conspiracy theories will not be tolerated.

Hello Space peeps
Conspiracy theories are not tolerated? So I can’t talk about how the moon landing was actually filmed by Elvis on the grassy knoll?
No, because it was filmed from the book depository. Not the knoll. I thought everyone knew that.
It sounds like the left landing gear on White Knight Two collapsed during landing.

Hi Evan and everyone else, here is some fanart ; ) (it’s space related! ^^)
Great pic, Dylan!
Am I horrible and morbid because the thread title reminds me of the name of one of the lost Challenger lessons?
I heard that it was actually filmed in a replica of the book depository by the CIA. I guess we’ll never know?
Nope, but it certainly applies to Spacevidcast. Have you seen Episode 1.01? http://www.spacevidcast.com/2008/03/26/spacevidcast-episode-001/
We’ve certainly improved, and we can only get better!
I do believe that that is their second major safety problem they’ve encountered. A few years back three Scaled Composites employees died in an explosion. This is actually probably one of the safer track records too.
I have seen that one, and we are certainly getting better! Here’s to 100 more, Ben and Cari!
Hey, thanks to everyone now helping with the video transcribing! I feel like work is now getting done, which is awesome! Crossing fingers hoping for more cool viewers now from Russia, South America, Africa, etc.
Does anyone know if SpaceX has stock or plans to? Can’t find anything about it.
As it stands, SpaceX is currently profitable. I’m not sure if that is going to change, but an IPO can either help or hurt them. They’d need to analyze the interest in space in the market right now. As for anything coming out of SpaceX, there is no plan for an IPO. Currently, it is a private company.
So, is there anything you guys would like to see on or say about Spacevidcast? We’re here for you!
I was talking about Orion today (the LockMart capsule) and found myself saying this: Today, NASA has to make do with and sustain limited capabilities. Apollo only flew a handful of missions. The shuttle program has flown 132! The Orion will need to be flown at least as many times to justify its cost.
Scary to think about eh?
The next live show will be broadcast from just north of Baltimore, MD.
There’s room in the studio! Join Ben, Cariann, VAXHeadroom, me, and every other cool person in the state by emailing me, porkchop at porkchop.net for directions and information. Please let me know how many you are because there’s a max of 15!
