Goals and Projects

SpaceVidcast has a large number of goals to get the dream of space travel in front of as many people in the world as possible. Below you will find a list of goals, their estimated costs and associated details.

Get the planet excited about space travel and planetary colonization.
Cost: Marketing of the site on AdWords, Radio and Television. Total cost unknown.
Timeline: This goal will start on day 1 and continue through the life of the project.
Requirements: Funds, graphics, 3D animations, 2.5D animations, audio production, flash developer

Lifecast from space
Cost: At least $200,000 for a ticket on Spaceship 2 plus any gear required to broadcast during launch and landing.
Timeline: As soon as Spaceship 2 or other space capable vehicle is ready as well as when the funds are raised.
Requirements: Space capable vehicle, funds, equipment, bandwidth from space

Send SpaceVidcast community members to space
Cost: $200,000 per ticket on Spaceship 2. Goal would be to send 1 person every 3 months for $800,000 per year in tickets.
Timeline: As soon as Spaceship 2 or other space capable vehicle is ready as well as when the funds are raised.
Requirements: Space capable vehicle, funds, legal paperwork

Improve production quality
Cost: Ongoing
Timeline: This goal will start on day 1 and continue through the life of the project.
Requirements: This goal will require new cameras, a much faster computer, improvements in the Ustream broadcaster and unlocking CamTwist from 320×240 resolution

Get a full studio
Cost: At least $500,000
Timeline: When funds are available
Requirements: This will require studio space with good sound insolation, full studio gear such as cameras, DDRs, switchers, CG, etc. as well as people to staff it for directing, technical directing, audio production, etc.

Live studio audience
Cost: None
Timeline: 2 months after the studio is operational
Requirements: The full studio or a space in which we can house people safely would be required

Daily shows rather than weekly
Cost: Soft costs include time and resources to assemble the show
Timeline: This can be done as soon as time is available for additional shows
Requirements: Simply time which translates to money. We may start by doing a 60 second space news update every day before a full show is produced every day. The full show needs to gain a bit of traction and work a bit better before we go down this road.

Get a link between the IRC chat and NASA missions or Astronauts
Cost: Unknown
Timeline: As soon as NASA or a space agency will allow it
Requirements: The chat room will need to be moderated before it is seen by the space agency in question. I would like to have not only mission update meetings linked to SpaceVidcast but also a direct link on the ISS and the Space Shuttle or similar program.
