Help Needed
Hey there! This page is out of date but don’t fret, we’re working on refreshing it! In the mean time, check out Spacevidcast epic!
Spacevidcast.com is in need of your help! We are trying to make this the #1 space videocast in the world with the mission of getting people excited about space travel again. To do this we’re going to need a team of passionate people who share in the vision of Spacevidcast.com. Some of the areas we need are highly technical, others are specialized and some just require an understanding of English or community based sites. No matter what your skill level, if you have the passion and vision we have something for you to do! Contact benjamin@spacevidcast.com with the job you’re interested in or if you don’t know what to do, just list of areas of your interest and we’ll find something you’ll love.
AJAX / Web Programmer
We need help developing an AJAX version of the site from comment posting to an automated live video popup to a countdown script. Most tasks are fairly simple and ideas on how to improve the site are welcome.
Web Designer – BLUEFOX
Web design for the logo elements, web site and still elements in live videocasts.
3D Animator
We’re in need of someone who is proficient at 3D animation to build a complex show open. Much of the animation would be space based which would be planets and null objects, but some would require modeling the ISS as well as the space shuttle. 1080p masters would be desired with 320p versions for the live shows (until we can start to produce in HD). A storyboard is available for the show open and other 3D animation may be requested for special stories or events.
Music Composer
The show needs music! We need a basic theme song for the show (full version) as well as cut versions at :60, :30, :15 and a stinger. An underscore of the full theme would be requested as well which could be used for voiceover work. Other music may be required as well for special stories or events.
IRC Chat Moderators
Community involvement is very important to SpaceVidcast.com. We need a series of IRC moderators who can hang out in the chat room even when there is no live show. This job requires a good amount of patience and common sense as we have many international and young members with English as a second language. We don’t want power hungry moderators who kick people just because, but we also don’t want the chat room to spiral out of control into a script kiddie network. These moderators must know how to strike a good balance. Moderators will be given automatic operator status on the IRC channel.
Community Site Moderators
SpaceVidcast.com publishes the weekly videocasts and special events to over 20 different social and video sharing sites. We don’t want to leave any community member out no matter where they get the content from. We are in need of people who will watch the sharing sites such as MySpace, Facebook, YouTube and others to ensure that the videos upload properly, are tagged properly, the profile is up to date and comments are answered as quickly as possible. Administrator access to the sites they control will be granted. You may take one or multiple sites to watch over.
Transcribers
Each episode of SpaceVidcast.com needs to be transcribed into a timed English version. This will be available on dotSub.com so that others can translate the videos in to multiple languages and will also provide closed captioning for each video. In addition transcription of the videos will be placed on the extended info for each video helping Google and other search engines to index the site to bring new users to SpaceVidcast.com through organic searches. While it may not seem like it, this is one of the most important jobs we have.
Translators
Each episode of SpaceVidcast.com will be made available on dotSub.com for translation to other languages. This will allow us to truly reach a global audience. If you know more than one language it would be very helpful to translate each episode. Systems such as Google Translate and Babblefish should be avoided as the computer translation is not nearly as accurate as an actual human translation.

Ad Sales
We have some pretty lofty goals here at SpaceVidcast.com and these goals require money. To help raise this money we will be selling ads against each weekly episode of SpaceVidcast.com. We need people willing to help sell ads and help us reach our different milestones.
Marketing / SEO / SEM
Marketing the site and videocasts worldwide so that everyone on the planet starts to get excited about space travel again is our fundamental reason for being here. We need to optimize the site and videos to be search friendly as well as advertise the site on the Internet, Radio, Television and other mediums.
Digg and Community based marketing
Social sites such as Digg.com, StumbleUpon, etc. need to be maintained as so we can get good rankings on each site. While we don’t aim to game the systems it would be nice if someone could submit the stories to Digg and maintain proper relationship to these communities. There may be a way to automate this inside of the WordPress system, if you know how please let us know!

On-site for SpaceUp DC, we'll still have our weekly live show! Join us for a night of awesomeness!
