TrueZer0 Ignignokt launch attempt

This is the launch attempt of TrueZer0’s Ignignokt rocket for the 2008 X PRIZE Foundation’s Northrup Grumman Lunar Lander Challenge. After the failure, the vehicle was unable to launch again to attemp a second flight.

Armadillo Aerospace’s MOD rocket - Set 1, Flight 1

This is the first launch attempt of Armadillo Aerospace’s MOD rocket at the 2008 X PRIZE Foundation’s Northrup Grumman Lunar Lander Challenge.  This particular launch ended early with the MOD touching the pad about 30 seconds too soon.  As such it was not a qualifying launch for the level 1 prize.

Expedition 18 / Soyuz Rocket Launch - October 12th, 2008

The Expedition 18 / TMA-13 Soyuz Rocket launched on October 12th, 2008 at 7:01am UTC destined for the International Space Station. This is the full media event as seen on NASA TV. Launch of the GeoEye imaging satellite aboard a United Launch Alliance Delta II rocket. The GeoEye-1 satellite will provide extremely high resolution pictures to Google, most likely for use in their mapping products.

Arianespace launches Superbird-7 and AMC-21 successfully in to orbit

The Ariane 5 launched two satellites in to orbit on August 14th, 2007. The first was the Superbird-7 for Japanese operator Space Communications Corporation (SCC) and AMC-21 for American operator SES Americom. This launch happened at the spaceport is Kourou, French Guiana with a liftoff at 8:44pm UTC.

Launch Failure of SpaceX Falcon 1 - Flight 3

SpaceX had a rough day. After an initial abort on the launch-pad at T-0 seconds they were finally able to get the Falcon 1 rocket in the air only to have the first stage not properly jettison, which caused a total vehicle and cargo loss. No humans were aboard the craft. While this is certainly a disappointment for SpaceX I have no doubt that they will continue forging forward with Falcon 1, Falcon 9 and Dragon.

Launch of EchoStar XI - Ocean based launch by Sea Launch Company

On Wednesday, July 16th at 12:21am CDT a Zenit-3SL rocket launched via the ocean based Odyssey launch platform. The Zenit-3SL rocket carried EchoStar XI into space while the Block DM-SL upper stage inserted it into geosynchronous transfer orbit. The final location for EchoStar XI will be 110 degrees West Longitude.

Arianespace launches Ariane-5 carrying ProtoStar 1 and BADR 6 satellites

Originally slated to launch on July 4th, 2008 this Arianespace Ariane-5 rocket ended up launch on July 7th, 2008 at 6:47pm local time in French Guiana.

Twenty-seven minutes after its launch the rocket released ProtoStar 1 the first satellite for the new U.S.-based telecommunications company ProtoStar. Eight minutes later, the rocket released a BADR-6 satellite for Arabsat, the 21-nation telecommunications group of the Arab League, that is designed for direct television broadcasting to the Middle East and North Africa.
